Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy

Who says you have to crunch yourself to backache to get that perfect toned stomach? 😏
It's easier to achieve it by doing something as simple as 1-2-3.
1. Exhale and empty your lungs.
2. Squeeze your tummy inside.
3. Hold it for 15 seconds.
Sounds easy? It is easy to do too.
I have been doing it for the past few days. I can't say how much it has worked or will work in getting the toned stomach. But if you are like me and read a lot about various fitness techniques, then you will understand that this is being done in yoga and pilates too. You learn about 'bandh' when you do few pranayams. This is nothing but such a 'bandh' only.
So, how to do it?
Essentially, on an empty stomach, lie down on your back. Fold your knees. Keep your hands on the floor. Exhale and empty your lungs completely. You can do it in one go or gradually. As you exhale, tuck your tummy in, as much as possible. Try to squeeze it in as if you are trying to touch your navel/ belly button with your back (I was laughing when I first read about it. Touching Belly button to my back...It has to cut through various layers of fat in my tummy to do it). Stay in this position for a while, say 10-15 seconds. And then leave it a gradually inhale. Repeat 3-5 sets, 2-3 times a day.
Points to remember:-
It is easy, but tricky too. 10-15 seconds at the beginning sounds easy, but keeping the tummy squeezed in without taking any breath is tough, at least at the beginning. But gradually, you will be able to do it. So do not loose hope.
In the video here, they have shown the inverted technique too, where you are in a cat position and do it. This is the variation.
The best time to do it is as soon as you wake up and are still contemplating whether to step down in this cold and hit the gym or not! I know you will eventually, but while you are thinking about it, why not out your tummy also to some work along with your will power. Fold your legs, keep your hands straight next to your body, exhale and squeeze. And think about the gym, while you mentally count for the next breath! PHEW!!!
I think it should condition the inner tummy muscles. Long time back, like 10-15 years ago, I saw a TVC on Tele Shopping channel about a belt with an alarm in the front. So, it was a simple belt with an alarm which will start beeping, if you expand your tummy! As simple as that. Some female had thought of it and designed it. You wear it with your tummy tucked in. As soon as you start faltering on the tummy tuck, the beeper starts to alert you. And you will go back sucking your tummy in and sitting straight. SO, it worked double- on your tummy and your back. Nice, neat and cute invention!
Coming back to this exercise, I have been doing it as soon as I wake up. It was tough to start with. Wasn't able to hold my breath even for a count of 5 the first time. But slowly and surely it improves and it improved. Now I am easily doing the sets for a count of upto 20. Hope to go on till 30!

Try it as write the comments about how you feel after doing it.

HAPPY LOOSING!

New Year New You

HAPPY & HEALTHY 2017!!!

Took this pic yesterday after my treadmill run (yes, been doing it for the past 10 days. will write about it later). And I just loved the pic. NO, not because of my shoes. I love my shoes. But that's not the reason.
The reason is all the how the different elements make up for a great message, in the most unlikely place.

QUICK START- It is never too late to start. Made your new year resolution on 31st December or 1st January and have not worked on it till October? So what? Your resolution. You decide and choose when to start working on it. No one has the right to judge you, but you, yourself. Your resolution. You decide, not today but after two months for sure. Or maybe just a month before this year ends. As long as you work on it, as long as you start giving it a serious thought and make it happen, nothing else matters. You just need to decide and press the QUICK START.

PAUSE/ RESET-  PAUSE and take a breath. Stop if something is not right. Cheat on your diet. Don't go to the gym today. Don't pretend to be happy for a day. Gossip/ bitch about the boss. It's ok to take a break as long as you RESET yourself back to the right gear.

EMERGENCY STOP- Who said it is going to be easy to achieve what you want? Life's a bitch and you will be forced to halt. There will be sudden breaks and you will not know what hit you. Everything you worked for will go to the bin.

But do not worry. There is a QUICK START there for you. There is a RESET for you.

AWESOME SHOES- So what did you do to push yourself towards your goal? I bought the funky fluorescent shoes. People know it's me doing my morning walks just by spotting my shoes. They become the conversation starter. I love looking at them when I am running on the treadmill and can't stand straight. They give me the kick. And I come back, stand straight.

So, go find your happy picture. And find your motivation in it.

Till then

HAPPY LOOSING!!!

Today's Motivation

- 4 + 79 = Celebration!!!

Nothing tastes better than success. And especially when it comes in terms of such wonderful numbers on the weighing scale...yaaayyyyy.. nothing  can beat the feeling.
but the only downside- cant eat anything 'celebratory' to enjoy the success 😖
That's fine. Need to keep the final goal in sight.
Have to fit in a nice dress for my bday!!!!

But the food has started to feel really boring. Have to tweak it up. Yesterday I met a clinical nutritionist. She took all my measurements along with the fat percentage, muscle percentage and god knows what not. There was a page full of measurements...phew 😥By tomorrow I will get my new diet for a month. I just dont want to loose weight but loose it in a way that I stay healthy from with in. So she is going to give me a diet which will have nutritionally controlled food. Now the weight loss will not be so much. This was all the water weight which I have lost. Now the muscle toning needs to be done. I dont want loose skin hanging around.

Btw the paneer paratha and lauki cutlet taste very good. And I dont feel hungry at all throughout the day. I thing the protein content is high in the diet and carbs are less. It makes me feel full the whole day. Thank god for that, else ...😱

Every morning I get up and jump on the scale and feel happy the moment the needle sways towards left.

Let is stay on the left to make it right for me!!!

HAPPY LOOSING!!!

2 down, 18 more to go

YAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!

It showed 77.5!!!! 2 down. The weighing machine showed 2 kgs less than what I had started off with. I am super duper happy with the result. I have never been happier. The 3 days diet worked.
I am going to keep up the good work. Time to start with the next diet. See it here.
Also, I am going to add some exercise to my regime.
Daily I do a 30-40 minutes walk. I am going to add half an hour treadmill walk cum jog to this. It will be more controlled than the evening walk I have with my neighbor. I am going to add a little bit of interval training. I read somewhere that you should always walk with an incline of 1 to 1.5 on a treadmill as the smoothest of the walking area outside has some incline to it, while on the treadmill, with no incline, you are more likely to ape the movement as if walking downhill. SO, I am going to start the treadmill walk. I will start with 30 minutes for this week and gradually increase.
I know this is only the water weight that has gone. It is going to be an uphill task to shake off all this extra fat which is there. But at least this time I am all set and ready to battle the bulge!

HAPPY LOSING!!!!

HAPPY LOSING!!!

1-2-3

DAY 1: 79.5 kg

Yes, I had read about it but I never thought that I will experience it. That when you eat less food, you may end up having headache.
I have been following up this diet for the past 3 days and I had bad headache yesterday. I thought it was because of lack of sleep. But now I realise that it is because of the less(er) food I have been eating 😣 The diet is filling. But it fills for the three meals. What about the whole day grazing my stomach and body is used to? 😩
Breakfasts are not that bad. I am used to eating Oats for breakfast. The only difference is that earlier I used to add honey, cinnamon and Women's Horlicks to it, this time I decided not to add anything which is packed and I don't understand the complete composition of it. But the first day oats tastes weird. Second day was better.
But I think taste is all acquired. You develop taste. I started having oats 4 years back, with honey. I never tried adding sugar to it. Women's Horlicks was a very late addition to it. I loved the taste- oats, honey, cinnamon, Women's Horlicks. One day when the honey was over I thought let me add sugar, as I was skeptical about how will I eat it without any sweetness added to it! So, I added just enough sugar to my oats. And trust me, nothing sweet ever tasted that weird and bad ever. And this coming from a person like me who loves sweets. 😕 That day I realised that you can acquire taste for something and anything.
So coming back to my diet. The lauki cutlets taste super yumm. The other day my MIL got inquisitive and took a little bite from my cutlets and she was impressed. She said that you can have them in general too as tea time snack!!!
I am using my sandwich grill for making the cutlets. And they turn out properly cooked with a crisp layer on top. I treat them with respect and use my knife and fork to eat them. It delays the process of eating and I take longer to finish food, hence, feel fuller for long! 👍
Post lunch I really dont get time. Son comes back from school and with the winters setting here in Gurgaon, I have to rush him through his lunch and take him down to play. And by the time I come back, it is time for dinner.
The soup is also filling, because of the paneer in it. I like the twang the beetroot adds to it.
I do not feel too hungry. But whenever I feel like eating something, I grab the water bottle and take few sips. I am having 3 litre of warm water everyday.
On Day 4 I am going to check my weight in the morning. I hope the scales oblige me and move to the left.🙏

HAPPY LOSING!!!

The beginning

BMI: 29 😖

I love maths but this was one calculation I didn't like at all. I knew it was not wrong but I was not happy with the answer. I have always been not thin. Always the tallest girl in my class. Always the not-thin one in my class. But I never thought that I was fat. Growing up clothes always fit. Well, there weren't many options to choose from. But I was too happy-go-lucky to ever bother about it.
But then man discovered EOSS. and my woes started. The greed of 'upto 80% off' couldnt wash off the sadness of 'upto 80% clothes dont fit' 😔

But now no more.

I am 79 kgs, holding it up on a 5ft 5 in frame.

Sounds too much 😓

After my son was born I was stuck at 76. Years went. I put in little effort ( they were biiiig if you ask me!). The scales went a bit towards the left and as soon as I was satisfied, they turned right back to the right on the scale 😞

One fine day, it showed 80 and I was like WTF! When did this happen? I didn't even know. And the above calculation flashed on my calculator. I knew I need to do something solid now. Being bored will not help if I want to fit into that nice Being Human t-shirt 😉

I know that only work out will not solve my problem. I need to tweak my diet. It has to be low on calories, combined with some exercise and I can start my losing process. I poured all my knowledge I have gained over time reading innumerous health and weight loss article. and came up with my diet plan. You can find it here. I am also going to start with my regular walk on the treadmill too. Paying maintenance to the society and not using the facilities- not fair!

All the best to me.

HAPPY LOSING!!!

200 gm Lauki (Bottle Guard), grated
1/2 tbsp chopped Onion

Mix all the above. The water content in lauki will help in kneading the dough. Divide it into balls and shape them in cutlet shaped balls. Either grill the cutlets or use a non-stick pan to cook them. You can use 1 tsp of ghee if required.
Have these cutlets with 1 small bowl of curd.

Evening Snack:

5-6 soaked Almonds or Walnuts with skin

2 Tomatoes
2 inch Carrot, Beetroot, Lauki

Put all of them in a pressure cooker with 1 cup of water. Pressure cook this for 2-3 whistles. Once it has cooled down, blend and strain. Add 50 gm Paneer pieces and have this soup. If you want to enhance its taste, add a tadka with 1/2 tsp ghee or mustard oil and garlic/ curry leaves/ hing (asfoetida).

Who wants to loose weight?
Me!!!
Who wants to do something about it?
Ahem (Side glances)

I am sure a lot of us can relate with this scenario. We always have a few more inches to loose and few kilos to shed, right? Well, I have a lot of inches and kilos to let go. How I wish there was something called fat or weight donation? I would have happily donated it over the counter. But sadly, losing weight is not easy. And especially when you have a lot of it, being your constant companion for a realllllyyyyyyyy long time.

I had promised myself when my son was born that I will lose it all in no time. But even after 6 years of his birth, I am still of the same girth :( New years came and New years got old. But the only constant was my resolution every year- LOSE THE WEIGHT! It’s not that I didn’t do anything. I tried aerobics, Gym, Zumba, Yoga, Morning walk, GM diet, 5:2 diet. You name it and I have probably read about it or have tried it to some extent. And that is where my problem lies. I am not consistent. I get bored easily. Be it diet or zumba or even morning walk with friends. One fine day I will be bored or tired or lazy and decide not to go ahead with it. And swoosh down the drain, all the efforts done in the past by me will go. And I will go back being the old me, Happy with the break, planning to restart my effort. But it never happened. It was always a new thing, with a lot of boom and vigour; and always the same fate.

Every Year I decided that come this EOSS and I will buy nice clothes which fit me and not in which I have to fit myself. But whom I was kidding? The inches sat there, making me a bigger person. Kilos hugged me tight, not willing to say bye bye as of now.
And then I came across this picture on FB.

Something struck me. If I need a change, I need to work for it. If I have to stay alive, I need to breathe. No one else can do it for me. If I want to fit in that dress, my body has to change and not the size tag on the dress. And I need to move, I need to put myself in those walking shoes every day.
Am I depressed and suffer from body image issues? I don’t think so. I just want to wear what I see hanging on the mannequin. And I do not want to enquire about a bigger size. I don’t want to keep my fingers crossed while opening the size guide on Myntra or Amazon, hoping that they will have ‘my’ size for this top or dress.

So, I have decided to take charge of my weight and loose it all. And I am sure I am going to succeed in it. Yes, it will take time, just the way it took time, to pile all this up. And I am ready. What do I have to lose- few kilos and hours of my life? I have way too much of it already there.
I am wishing myself ALL THE BEST. And I know I am going to come out stronger and healthier from this!!
HAPPY LOSING!!!
